On Friday, September 5th 2014, Haoran Li, age 28, from China, won the 1st Prize in the Finals of the International Conducting Competition Bucharest Jeunesses Musicales – 5th Edition, at the Gala Concert that took place at the Romanian Athenaeum. The other two finalists were: Yang Jiao, 29 years old (China) who won the 2nd Prize and Donka Miteva, 34 years old (Bulgaria) – 3rd Prize. On September 6th, as Special Prize, all three finalists conducted in the Opening Concert of the “George Enescu” International Competition.
Influenced by both of his parents, who are musicians themselves, he started to learn piano at the age of six. In 2003 he started to learn conducting under famous Conductor and renowned Educator Professor Xu Xin. In 2011, Haoran Li became Master student of Professor Mr. Ehwald and Professor Mr. Baum at the College of Music Hans – Eisler (Hochschule für Musik Hans-Eisler). Since 2013 he was conducted concerts in China with Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and Hangzhou philharmonic.

At the Gala Concert where Irina Iordachescu and Adrian Dumitry were soloists, with the “George Enescu” Philharmonic, the following other prizes were awarded:

Alexandru Mija and Alexandru Ilie – Prize for best Romanian conductors

Sander Frans Frederik Teepen (Netherlands) and Yuta Shimizu (Japan) – Honorable Mention and Sander Frans Frederik Teepen also received the Prize of the “George Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra.

The three finalists also were awarded a future concert with the Moldova Philharmonic Orchestra in Iasi; Haoran Li another concert at the Banatul Philharmonics in Timisoara and Giancarlo Rizzi (Italy), one of the semi-finalists, a concert at the Kielce Philharmonics (Poland.

Eighty-eight (88) contestants applied for the 5th Edition of the International Conducting Competition Bucharest Jeunesses Musicales, all young conductors, under 35 years of age, from 37 countries and 5 continents, such as Italy, China, Romania, Russia, Japan, Bulgaria, South Korea, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Greece, Netherlands, United States of America, Bolivia, Canada, Czech Republic, Switzerland, France, Iran, Israel, Latvia, United Kingdom, Norway, Serbia, Syria, Spain, Turkey, Venezuela, Croatia, etc. Fifty of them were selected to participate in the 1st Round.

The jury of the competition deployed from 1st to 5th of September was exceptional, formed by 7 important people of Romanian and international musical life:

Maestro Horia Andreescu (Romania) – Chief Conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest and associate Professor of the National University of Music Bucharest – President of the Jury

Maestro Mark Stringer (USA) – Conductor and Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna

Maestro Nicolae Licaret (Romania) –Artistic Director of George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest

Maestro Bojan Sudjić (Serbia) – Artistic Director of the RTV Serbia’s Music Production, and Chief Conductor of the RTV Serbia’s Symphony Orchestra and Choir. He is also Professor of conducting at Faculty of Music Art, University in Belgrade.

Maestro Gheorghe Costin (Romania) – Chief Conductor of Banatul Philharmonic in Timisoara

Maestro Jacek Rogala (Poland) – Director and Chief Conductor of Kielce Philharmonic, Poland

Maestro Bujor Prelipcean (Romania) – Director of Moldova Director in Iasi

The International Conducting Competition Bucharest Jeunesses Musicales is the only conducting project acknowledged and promoted by the Jeunesses Musicales International Network – the largest network of this kind for young musicians around the world – 85 countries. In Romania, the project has grown from year to year, from one edition to another.
